Free Sentence Editing Worksheet and Three-Step Story Planner
Free resources for 20 October 2026. Today's Williams Consultancy downloads invite children to choose words with care and invent a short story. Both are single-page A4 PDFs, free without payment, an account or email sign-up.
For schools: Sentence Workshop
For primary teachers and pupils aged 7-11. This ten-minute activity starts with a simple sentence and guides pupils through choosing a more precise verb, adding one useful detail, checking clarity and punctuation, and explaining a word choice.
Use the example sentence or one from a pupil's own story. Invite pupils to say the revised version aloud before writing. Compare the versions and discuss the effect on the reader. More words do not always mean better writing. The sheet includes an oral modelling option and an extension to change the mood.
For families: A Story in Three Steps
For an adult and child aged 4-9. Choose a character, setting and small problem, then build a beginning, middle and ending together. Your child can speak, draw, act or write.
Spend five minutes inventing the story. Offer two choices if getting started feels tricky, and retell the finished story together. An adult can write down one sentence exactly as the child says it. Older children can explain why a first attempt failed or try another ending. Spelling is not the focus.
