Service Description

Supporting students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or Special Educational Needs (SEN) is one of the most important responsibilities for schools. Yet, many institutions face challenges in identifying learners’ needs early, providing tailored interventions, and ensuring compliance with national legislation such as the ALN Act (Wales) or the SEND Code of Practice (England). Without robust systems in place, students risk disengagement, underachievement, and unmet needs. At JLW Consultancy, we provide schools with the expertise and structured frameworks required to deliver effective, inclusive, and legally compliant ALN/SEN provision. Our consultancy service equips school leaders, teachers, and staff with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to meet diverse learner needs while building sustainable, whole-school strategies. We begin by conducting a comprehensive review of your school’s current ALN/SEN practices, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. From here, we help schools establish clear identification and referral processes, ensuring that students receive the right assessments and support as early as possible. Our consultancy then provides tailored student support plans, including IDPs (Individual Development Plans) or EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans), designed to meet each learner’s specific needs. These plans are practical, measurable, and aligned with statutory requirements, ensuring schools can demonstrate compliance during Estyn, Ofsted, or local authority reviews. We also focus heavily on staff training and professional development, offering bespoke CPD sessions on differentiation, behaviour management, accessibility strategies, and inclusive teaching practices. By developing staff confidence and capability, we help ensure that provision is consistent across classrooms and departments. To ensure accountability, our service supports schools in implementing data-driven tracking and monitoring systems, enabling leaders to evaluate progress, measure intervention impact, and adapt provision where needed. Alongside this, we strengthen collaboration with parents and external agencies, ensuring that families, therapists, psychologists, and SEN teams work together to achieve the best outcomes for children. With JLW Consultancy’s ALN/SEN support, schools can expect: • Early identification systems to ensure timely interventions. • Customised student support plans (IDPs/EHCPs) tailored to individual needs.
