Service Description

Technology, when used effectively, can be a powerful tool for children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). Assistive tools can boost independence, increase accessibility, and improve learning outcomes. However, many parents feel unsure about which resources to choose or how to integrate them successfully at home and in school. Without the right guidance, families may invest in tools that are underused or ineffective. With the right support, however, inclusive technology can transform a child’s learning journey, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and independently. At JLW Consultancy, our Inclusive Technology & Learning Tools Service helps parents identify and use the best tools for their child’s unique profile. We provide tailored advice on selecting, implementing, and maximising inclusive technology. We guide parents by offering: • Access to tailored software and resources — from speech-to-text programs to visual scheduling apps. • Practical strategies for implementation — ensuring technology works both at home and in school. • Support in matching tools to learning styles and needs — so every child benefits in the way that suits them best. • Confidence in supporting independence — showing parents how technology can empower children to take ownership of their learning. • Recommendations for cost-effective options — including free or grant-funded assistive technologies. Frequently Asked Questions • What types of inclusive technology are available? Tools such as audiobooks, screen readers, adaptive keyboards, and dictation software can support a wide range of needs. • How does technology help children with ALN? It can bridge learning gaps, reduce frustration, and make education more accessible and engaging. • Are there tools for specific needs like dyslexia, ADHD, or autism? Yes — from interactive whiteboards to specialised apps, we match tools to the child’s profile. • How do I know which tools are right for my child? We provide assessments and consultations to recommend the most effective solutions. • Are affordable options available? Absolutely — we highlight free, low-cost, and grant-supported technologies. • How can I stay updated on new tools? We offer regular updates, workshops, and guides so parents always have the latest information. By ensuring the right use of inclusive technology, we help families unlock new opportunities for learning, confidence, and independence.
