Service Description

Relocating to a new country or moving between education systems can be daunting for families. Whether transitioning from private to public schooling, enrolling in an international curriculum, or adapting to a completely different national system, parents often face uncertainty about how to secure the right support for their child. These challenges are even greater for families of children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Approaches to support vary widely across countries, and without clear guidance, children risk missing out on the help they need during a critical period of adjustment. At JLW Consultancy, our Navigating the Education System Globally Service provides specialist advice to help families understand and integrate into new educational environments smoothly. We equip parents with the knowledge and tools to advocate for their child effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to learning. We help families by offering: • Clarity on international ALN/SEND frameworks — understanding how different countries provide support. • Guidance on curriculum transitions — from national standards to IB, IGCSE, or other global qualifications. • Practical advice on assessments and reporting — helping parents interpret new systems of progress tracking. • Support in advocating for services abroad — ensuring children receive accommodations and support plans. • Strategies for smooth transitions — minimising disruption for children academically, socially, and emotionally. Frequently Asked Questions • How do education systems differ globally? They vary in curriculum, assessment methods, school structures, and approaches to SEND. • How can I support my child in adapting to a new system abroad? Preparing early, researching curricula, and communicating with schools helps ensure smoother transitions. • Will my child’s qualifications be recognised internationally? Many countries follow globally recognised frameworks such as IB or national equivalency standards. • What challenges should I expect? Children may encounter language barriers, curriculum gaps, cultural differences, and social adjustment needs. • Are there support networks for expatriate families? Yes — online forums, expatriate groups, and relocation consultants can provide valuable connections. • How do I navigate special education provisions abroad? Researching local legislation, available school support, and advocacy groups is key.
