Service Description

Reading is one of the most important foundations for learning, yet many parents are unsure of their child’s true reading level. School assessments can sometimes give only a partial picture, leaving it unclear whether a child is working at, above, or below expected standards. Without targeted support, difficulties with decoding, comprehension, or reading fluency can persist and affect confidence and wider academic progress. Our Reading Test & Reading Age Assessment provides a detailed, independent measure of your child’s reading ability and growth. Through a structured assessment, we: • Identify your child’s reading age and compare it to national expectations. • Highlight strengths and pinpoint gaps that may require extra support. • Evaluate phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension to give a full literacy profile. • Provide actionable strategies to improve reading confidence and enjoyment. This service is ideal for parents who suspect their child is struggling, or who simply want reassurance that progress is on track. Frequently Asked Questions • What is a Reading Age Assessment? A test that determines a child’s reading ability in comparison to age-related standards. • How is the reading age calculated? Reading age is an estimate from the assessment's scoring information. It is considered alongside your child's wider reading profile and educational context. • Why is this important? Identifying areas of difficulty can help families prioritise support and ask informed questions about their child's reading. • What does the test involve? Engaging, age-appropriate reading exercises and comprehension questions. • Is preparation needed? No — but regular shared reading and exposure to varied texts are always beneficial. • How often should my child be assessed? We recommend termly or annual assessments to monitor ongoing progress. • What if my child is below expected level? We provide personalised reading plans, recommended book lists, and proven intervention strategies. By combining reading assessment findings with practical guidance, we help parents understand their child's strengths, identify areas for support and plan useful next steps at home and school.
