Service Description

Strong spelling skills are a key part of literacy and academic success. Yet many children struggle with spelling patterns, phonics, and word retention — difficulties that can affect writing fluency, self-expression, and confidence. Our Spelling Test & Spelling Age Assessment gives parents a clear picture of their child’s spelling ability and identifies specific areas for support. Through a structured assessment, we: • Determine your child’s spelling age and compare it to national expectations. • Identify strengths and areas for improvement to inform targeted interventions. • Assess phonics knowledge, spelling rules, and sight word retention to create a detailed learning profile. • Provide tailored recommendations to improve accuracy, retention, and confidence. This service is ideal for parents who want to understand their child’s spelling development, check that progress is on track, or identify gaps early for effective intervention. Frequently Asked Questions • What is a Spelling Age Assessment? A test that measures a child’s spelling ability compared to age-related literacy standards. • How is spelling age calculated? We evaluate phonics, spelling accuracy, and word recognition to assign a spelling age. • Why is this important? Early identification of spelling gaps allows for targeted literacy support before difficulties grow. • What does the assessment involve? Phonics exercises, graded word lists, and short dictation tasks. • Is preparation needed? No — regular reading and spelling practice is helpful but not required. • How often should a child be assessed? Annually or biannually to monitor progress and guide learning strategies. • What if my child is below expected level? We provide individualised recommendations, learning plans, and intervention resources. • What home strategies can help? Word games, phonics-based activities, and consistent spelling practice reinforce skills. By delivering detailed assessments and personalised strategies, we help parents ensure that their child builds strong spelling skills — laying the foundation for confident writing and lifelong literacy success.
